Prayer Board

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to your protection, implored your help or sought your intercession, was left unaided. Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto you, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother. To you I come, before you I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word incarnate, despise not my petitions, but, in your mercy, hear and answer me.         Amen.

Tony Pagano, PFN, Most Holy Rosary Assembly 2170, Harrison, Ohio has
Gall Stones and will have to have surgery to remove the Gall Bladder.
However, this is complicated by the fact that he has Pancreatitis and
has a cyst on it.  Evidently, the Gall Stone created some sort of
blockage in the Pancreas.  So, the plan is that Tony will stay in the
hospital a week or more.  Surgery will not occur until between 2-6
weeks. They want to wait until the Pancreas is better.  Tony is in
quite a bit of pain.  Please keep Tony in your prayers.

Sir Knights,

As the Faithful Navigator I am sending you this little email so you will go to church tomorrow and say an extra prayer or two.  If your church has candles, please light one as well.  Earlier this morning I received some sad news, one of our dear friends and Sir Knights of our fine Assembly, Fr. Nick from St. Mary's Queen of Creation Catholic Church in New Baltimore, suffered a mild heart attack last night.  He is doing well and recovering.  I have canceled the publishing of the June Newsletter so I can update it with his name in it for our prayers.  I will have it out later next week.  When I get more information, I will pass it on.  He is at Mt. Clemens General.  He is schedule for some test on Monday.  So far, unfortunately, no visitors.  Please Sir Knights, please keep him in your prayers.

Dear Fr. Louis Hennepin Province Brother Sir Knights and Ladies,

Greetings from beautiful downtown DeWitt, Michigan, where women
are strong, men are good looking, and children are above average!

To re-cap, Ben suffered a massive stroke on the right side of his brain on Friday April 16th.  The cause of his stroke was Atrial Fibrillation, in which a blood clot traveled from his heart up thru his carotid artery to his brain.  He was hospitalized for 2-weeks in the Ingham Medical Center in Lansing, where he received stroke patient tender loving care.  Then he stayed for 2-weeks in the Tender Care West Nursing Home, where he received rehabilitation care thru occupational and physical therapy.  We brought him back home with us on Friday May 14th, where he received in-home nursing care and physical therapy.

Now for an update, Ben suffered a massive stroke on the left side of his brain on Sunday May 23rd.  Atrial Fibrillation
was also the cause of his second stroke.  The Ingham Medical Center Emergency Room doctor conferred on the phone with a neurologist, who proposed giving Ben clot buster medication.  After listening to the ER doctor's description of the plus and minus aspects of this medication, we told him to go ahead with the procedure of administering it to Ben.

All day long on Monday, Ben could not speak or move his right arm or leg, and he kept his eyes tightly shut.  Also, he did not respond to any voice commands.  It was as if he was in a deep coma.  On Tuesday, he opened his eyes, spoke clearly, and responded to voice commands by raising his right arm and leg.  The hospital dietitian, who was concerned about his ability to swallow, gave him a small portion of applesauce and jello, as well as a small bite of a graham cracker.  He had no trouble swallowing, so she declared that he could eat any type of food that he wanted to.

This 100-year-old man, who is my favorite father-in-law, has now survived 2-massive strokes that would've killed most people!  He is the oldest person in the USA to be given the clot buster medication!  This is nothing short of a miracle!

Praise God from Whom all blessings flow;
Praise Him all you creatures here below;
Praise Him above you heavenly host;
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost!

Please continue to keep Ben in your daily thoughts and prayers!  Thank you!

5/26/2010

Thank you for your prayers! Continue your prayers.  Please pass this memo on.
Joan's health is improving.
Probable cause of the stroke is Atrial Fibrillation - a heart rhythm problem. Under control with medication.
She is starting rehab today at the Heartland Nursing Home in Canton.

Pray for us, as we will pray for you!              Frank Pawelak - Former Master Michigan District 1

Worth Sir Knights & Ladies of Father Hennepin Province:
Greetings from beautiful downtown DeWitt, where women are strong, men are good looking, & children are above average!
My 99-year-old father-in-law, Benjamin H. 'Ben' Klinkhamer, suffered a mild heart attack last Thanksgiving Day Holiday weekend, and received a heart pacemaker at Ingham Medical Hospital in Lansing in mid-December.  Prior to that he lived alone in his house on the west side of Lansing.  Since then, he has been living with my wife, Kay, and I in Dewitt.  Ben celebrated his 100th birthday on Tuesday May 23rd.  We are hosting a family reunion picnic celebration, of this wonderful milestone in his long life, on Sunday June 6th in Riverside Park in beautiful downtown DeWitt!  His relatives will be coming from far and wide across the U.S.A.
Please pray for him, because he suffered a massive stroke on the right side of his brain on Friday April 16th.  He spent the next 2-weeks in the stroke patient wing of the Ingham Medical Hospital in Lansing for testing and care.  And then the next  2-weeks at the Tender Care Nursing Home in Lansing for rehabilitation care, and occupational & physical therapy.  We got him back home to our house last Friday.  He has lost his short term memory, and is quite confused.
Ben is truly a blessing to have living with us.  Our 2-sons, our youngest daughter, and their spouses also live in Dewitt, along with 8 of our 10-grandchildren.  They come over regularly to visit their grandfather, and great-grandfather.  He enjoys playing cards with them and with us.  Our oldest daughter lives in Haslett with her husband, so they are only 15-minutes away.  She has the other 2 of our 10-grandchildren.
Thank you for your kind thoughts and prayers for Ben!

Karl Habig who is Frank's 10 year old Cousin, had his operation on his foot.  The operation went well, and it took a little longer for the swelling to go down than expected.  He got his cast after the swelling went down.  He was allowed to come home.  He has a therapist and that is going well.  Karl went back to school and seems to be doing fine with the foot with his walker.

Prayers needed for my 10 year old cousin Adam Habig again.  If you remember he had his feet operated on and was locked together for a period of time.

"Time for Karl to get the screws and plates out of his legs. After much thought, and asking for  many second (and third, and fourth, and fifth) opinions, we decided to go with the doc's recommendation to have the surgery on the left foot re-done, too. Seems that the arch on the left foot didn't come down as nicely as on the right, so the weight-bearing is still on  the ball and heel of the foot. This can lead to foot pain, joint pain, and the like, so we  decided to go ahead with it while Karl is young, lightweight, and will heal quickly. Plus,  they won't have to go in and get the staple from his heel, so hopefully he won't need another  surgery. Karl was against the re-do at the beginning, but now he seems ok with it, and doesn't seem too  anxious about the surgery, so that's a good thing. The challenges will come afterwards when  he has to deal with a cast again, especially during the 3 non-weightbearing weeks. His school  doesn't have an elevator, so he'll have trouble getting upstairs to his classroom. We'll have  to help him upstairs in the am, and retrieve him in the afternoon. Thankfully that will only  be for 3 weeks." Thanks for your prayers, Jane and Tom -- Jane Kammer Habig

For your information, Larry had cervical spine surgery on March 28th. His recovery is going very slowly!

He has an appointment tomorrow to see the surgeon and hopefully we will get some answers to why he is having so much intense arm and hand pain.He cannot be out of bed for longer then 10 minutes until the pain gets so severe he has to go back to bed. So I can't wait to get him to the doc tomorrow and see what he says. Maybe this is totally normal, we just don't know.

They had to fuse C3-C7 and screw a rod in place to stabilize his spine. He has some spinal cord damage which cannot be repaired but the surgery should keep the damage from progressing.  Just thought you might be interested in knowing this. I will keep you posted as to his condition.  Larry is a Former Master from Ohio.  Thanks.

Update on Mark Currie, District 2 Marshal, Michigan

All the prayers, calls, and Mass cards have been greatly appreciated since my illness began last April.  The leukemia is not in remission but has gone from Stage IV to Stage I or II.  I'm feeling stronger and have started pulmonary rehab in hopes of possibly not wearing oxygen 24/7.  I have up and down days and would appreciate continued prayers for my recovery.  Janet and I thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all of your support.  God is great and will lead me where he wants me.

Yours in Jesus and Mary,

Mark and Janet Currie
Marshal - District 2 - Michigan

I am happy to inform you that Fred was discharged from the hospital yesterday.  With all tests performed, they found nothing is wrong with his heart.  However, the lungs are giving him some discomfort.  With tests and biopsy they have ruled out all known illnesses, and they are trying to figure out what the new one he has!
He is home recovering now, breathing is under control.

Thank you all for all the prayers and please keep them going.

Thank you again,
Amy

My Brother Sir Knights & Ladies;

I am asking for prayers for my wife Linda Szidik, a cancer survivor of four years. Her  mammogram follow-up yesterday showed a spot in the cancer breast. The Dr. thinks it is benign, but we have to wait till next Thursday for the results. PLEASE remember her in your prayers, for a benign report. Many of you may remember Linda & I from our involvement over the last 20 years.

Brothers,

I'm asking for prayers again for my father, Bob Collins, Sr. He has been in and out of the hospital the past couple of weeks. He has some tumors on his lung that contain cancer. I know with your help we can beat this again.

He is a 6 -7 year kidney cancer survivor and 3 year survivor of cancer in the lining of the bladder.
The cancer is just looking for a new place to challenge him.

Prayers work. I truly believe that you can pray a person healthy. You have helped do it twice before.

Dad belongs to a council in Moorestown, North Carolina and Bishop O'Reilly Assembly here in Cleveland.

I just wanted to thank everyone for their support and prayers. I was released from the hospital yesterday and I'm back home recovering... again! I feel pretty good considering all that has happened. I hope this is the final step of this long recovery process from the original surgeries back in September.  If all goes accordingly, I'll begin working on building up my strength and finally get back to work!

Saturday into Sunday update,

John is doing very well, but the doctors are stubborn. He could have been released except for one blood test is still low. Due to the heart valve surgery he is to be on blood thinners for life and the level was still too low. We even have disagreeing physicians cardiologist says let him go & surgeon says no.  We are both very frustrated by this and due to the weekend it's not likely to get better until Monday.

Blessings to you all on this 1st Sunday of Lent.  John is a member of Precious Blood Assembly and St Maximilan Kolbe Council West Chester, Ohio

Fred was having trouble with breathing and dizziness of late. His energy level was at a minimum level as well.  So I took him to our  family physician yesterday when I had  no luck reaching his cardiologist.

Our family doctor advised me to take Fred to emergency  for immediate care. I followed doctor's advise and took him to Jewish Hospital in Blue Ash.  They are performing a lot of tests to find out what is causing all this trouble and at the same time they have medicated him to relieve him of his coughing spells.

He is much better this morning, fewer coughing spells but the battery of tests are still pending.  Please pray for his speedy recovery.  Fred is a member of Glenmary Council and Elko Assembly in Cincinnati, OH area.  Thanks - Amy Castelino.

Below is an update from Karen Hatfield on Linda's condition:

Today was a good day overall. This morning we received a phone call letting us know that Linda Hatfield will be moved by ambulance tomorrow morning to Atlanta to the Shepard rehab center.

Last week in a meeting with a representative from Shepard thought there would be room for Linda tomorrow, and there really is!
Not much longer after that we receive an update from Linda's nurse that she can be moved down a level in care, she didn't need to be in ICU anymore. Another step towards the right direction!

We couldn't believe all of the good things that were happening so quickly. But Linda was not moved to the step below in care till an hour or so later. Not only was all of this occurring but today Linda was taken to the physical therapy room where patients are on a board and is tilted at 70 degrees to test how long she is able to stand on her feet. Linda was able to do so for one half hour (that's only how long it is done for), but she was able to the whole half hour!

Many good things happened today in a short amount of time, and she was definitely tired from everything. Right before the visitation hours ended at 6, she looked at my dad and mouthed you need to go pack for tomorrow. Tomorrow will definitely be a big day and we are all excited for this next step!

Please keep Linda in your prayers...and again thank you so much for doing so!  SK Steve Hatfield is a member of Elko Assembly and Glenmary Council in Cincinnati, OH.

Good Evening all Sir Knights,

John Rose is settled back into a regular room this evening. The robot did what a man couldn't do...humble a doctor. He has some shoulder pain & of course any size chest tube is never fun. It was a long morning, rocky afternoon but improvements and the power of love felt thru your prayers has helped us make it thru.

He's watching the Olympics and wishing he was going to be at the St. Max fish fry tomorrow night. Thanks.

Worthy Sir Knights,

Prayers are needed for SK John Wilke's daughter Aimee Miltin.

She had back surgery a few years ago where some vertebrae were fused together and some screw were also place in the spine to help hold it all together.

Well the screws have loosened up to a point where they are rubbing together in her back.  She is in terrible pain again and facing more surgery.

Please keep her in your prayers.

Please keep John Rose in your prayers today.  Yesterday the surgeon attempted to connect the 3rd lead for his pacemaker. It was not successful. Today a cardio-thoracic surgeon will use robotic technology to connect the lead in a different method. This will involve a planned collapse of his left lung for a brief time. Surgery is scheduled for 7am and follows with an expected (could be less) 3 day hospital stay. We are at Good Sam Hospital of Cincinnati.  John Rose is a member of Precious Blood Assembly - Westchester, OH.

One of our Sir Knights needs our prayers.  Yesterday Ken Currey’s heart stopped “long enough” before beating again and reviving him, that the doctor’s aren’t sure how much brain damage was done. He is in a coma now and the family  (his wife Deb and two kids) is standing vigil by him at the hospital in Cincinnati (Christ, I think). Only time will tell so PRAYERS ARE A TOP PRIORITY for Ken and his family now. Pray that the Holy Spirit bring him healing and that he comes out of this coma with little or no brain damage.

Ken is 48 and has been a 4th Degree Knight for 5 years. He did do some honor guard duties before his job schedule took him away, and then when his job left him (Security at DHL) he scrambled to make ends meet. In addition, he has a history of heart problems and he could only do so much so we didn’t see him much lately,  but he participated when he could.

More updates on Ken as we get them. For now, please say a prayer or two.

Sir Knights and Brothers,

Fr. Jim just got finished meeting with Ken Currey's wife Deb. Unfortunately,
Ken is not getting better. He is having seizures and developed a high temp
and is showing no sign of recovery. They will give him one more day on the
respirator and then disconnect it, to see if he starts breathing on his own.
Sadly, they expect that his time here is short and he may be in the Lord's
hands within the next day or so.

I did find out that Ken had a job that was "light stress" due to his heart
condition but it proved to be even too much and he was let go.

Please keep Ken in your prayers that God's Will be done and pray for Deb and
the kids that they may handle this as best they can. As Fr. Jim put it, you
never know what will happen. AND WITH PRAYER, miracles do happen. Pray to Fr.
McGivney for healing and recovery.

More updates as they come from Fr. Jim.....

My Sister Dorothy Marcello had lung surgery yesterday to remove a cancerous “spot” in one lung.  She has several smaller spots in the other lung and has known about them for about a year.  The oncologist was watching them but no action had been taken until she herself contacted a pulmonary specialist 2-3 months ago. The spots are cancerous and are considered to be the same cancer found in her colon—indicating that it has spread.

She’s in some pain despite being on pain meds but was sitting in a chair for a good part of today.  She will be in the hospital 2-5 days but she is not in any hurry to go home.  For one thing, they have a new dining service at Jewish Hospital where she can order from the menu by phone – like “room service.”  For another, we’re expecting snow this weekend.

Dorothy Marcello is the sister of SK Frank Kammer from Archbishop Elko Assembly and Madonna Council in Cincinnati.
